Meggings – leggings for men

March 18, 2014 For Him, Fashion

Yes, I have spotted them in public: the first men in meggings. Meggings are leggings for men. Black, tight elastic trousers, combined with an oversized baggy pullover and casual sneakers. For several years, men have increasingly been seen wearing skinny jeans. Obviously, men are becoming braver when it comes to fashion. It takes courage for fashion, self-confidence, but most of all the right physique for men to wear muggings successfully.

Mick Jagger is obviously one of the best known long-term wearers of tight legwear. Now they reportedly are coming back into fashion. Leggings originated in the fitness studios of the ‘80s. From these humble beginnings, they went to take over the streets as “super hot” legwear. At some point they disappeared and have resurfaced a few years ago. The colours, however, have changed, as leggings are by no far as colourful nowadays as they used to be. Instead, they boast all sorts of zips and elasticated inlets. And, after all, leggings are still as comfortable as they always were.

Why should the man not also join this trend? After all, ballet dancers also wear them! The question which you need to ask yourself is: Where and when can a man wear these muggings in everyday life? In the office, combined with a jacket? This might not look all that flattering if he is not blessed with model measurements.

Hips which are too big, a protruding belly, legs which are too sturdy, all this is detrimental to the impression you want to make when wearing meggings. The whole thing could easily backfire.

What is supposed to look sexy and erotic can easily end up looking the opposite with the wrong wearer. Therefore, fashion experts advise: never wear meggings without short trousers over them, and never wear them in bright colours. Wide shorts with meggings underneath are set to become the trend for spring, of course in muted natural colours or black. However, another option for meggings are frocks in combination with meggings. And here we are already seeing the next, new trend in menswear.
